A sci-fi spectacular is planned for families visiting Wookey Hole Caves this Summer holiday as the South West tourist favourite unveils its latest attractions.
Visitors to the Somerset destination can expect to be wowed by the newly added Sci-Fi circus show which will be running daily from 21st July until 31st August.
The 4D cinema experience adds to the high-tech magic as children don special glasses to explore the unexplored Lost World of Dinosaurs which comes to life in front of their eyes.
The circus show is a Las Vegas style production which will include acrobats, trapeze artists, jugglers, and some of the film industry’s most famous science-fiction characters, all backed by world leading laser technology.
Daniel Medley, director of Wookey Hole, said: “The Sci-Fi Spectacular Circus Show is a sight to behold! Brand new futuristic lighting and state of the art laser technology combines with appearances from much-loved science fiction characters to really create a special, fantastical display.
“We are always looking to add value and entertainment and we know how popular Sci-Fi is at the moment so we think the theme will be a memorable highlight for visitors over the holidays, who want a fun-filled day out whatever the weather.”
Last year Wookey Hole Caves unveiled tunnels and caverns never before seen after three tonnes of explosives and thousands of detonators were used to blast 70 metres through 1000 tonnes of rock.
Visitors this summer can explore the spectacular unexplored new cavern with its unique rock formations and a stunning subterranean lake that was discovered by cave divers.
Daniel continued: “Last year we blasted through tons of rock so that visitors can now explore the unexplored in the amazing natural chambers 10 and 20, previously only seen by expert cave divers. The new caves are exciting for families and so many visitors have told us it is like walking through a science fiction landscape.
“The whole place is packed with history and mystery and we hope visitors are thrilled every step of the way.”
With over 20 indoor and outdoor attractions Wookey Hole provides a whole day out whatever the weather and during the school holidays the Witch of Wookey will be meeting and greeting children.
In The Witch’s Laboratory visitors can meet the witch’s pet bat, Harold, who will take families on a journey to the Lost World 4D cinema experience. The old mill building holds a variety of attractions, including the Mirror Maze, Penny Arcades, Cave History and Cave Diving museums. Little ones can let off steam in the play areas, and families can enjoy a round of Pirate Adventure Golf.
Accommodation packages are available at the Wookey Hole Hotel, including a night’s stay for a family of four, plus tickets to Wookey Hole attractions starting from just £129.
Also new this Summer are exclusive luxury lodges. Mendip View has just opened, with self-catering lodges containing everything needed for a family holiday, including private hot tubs starting from £299.
