Santa and his helpers have been busy transforming a cave deep below ground into a spectacular magical kingdom filled with over 100,000 Christmas lights, as they prepare to delight families in the West this festive season.
Buried deep beneath the Mendip hills, Santa’s Magical Kingdom is taking shape at Wookey Hole Caves in Wells, Somerset, ready for the Christmas holiday celebrations taking place between Saturday 21 November and Sunday 3 January.
Managers at the popular South West attraction say the magnificent Magical Kingdom, which has been created in the recently opened cave Chamber 20 is unlike any other Christmas wonderland children will see this year. The remarkable combination of the natural beauty of the cavern beneath the hills with the added sparkle which Wookey has added to fuel children’s imaginations makes Wookey the place to be this Christmas.
Children can also explore the newly rebuilt Santa’s Grotto in Santaland, meet Santa and his helpers and receive a specially wrapped present as well as enjoying the festive circus show which is performed everyday at 1pm and 3pm.
A highlight for families will be the 4D festive adventure ‘Sleigh Ride’ which will be showing in the interactive 4D cinema and is also included in the ticket price.
The 4D experience will come to life on screen with special effects. Audiences feel the wind on their face as they fly through the night, feel the bump of the sleigh as it lands on a roof and enjoy a ride full of surprises and thrills.
Head Elf at Wookey Hole Caves said: “Christmas is always a fantastic time of year for us at Wookey and we’re really excited about our brand new Santa’s Magical Kingdom feature. Chamber 20 has only recently been discovered and accessed by our cave divers so we’ve worked really hard to transform it ready for its first Christmas.
“The cave is one of the most spectacular we have here already but with the suspended sleigh and magical lighting, it really is something to behold. To have something this magical so deep beneath the Mendip Hills will feel really special to visiting families and we can’t wait to see their faces.
“All of the caves will be illuminated with over 100,000 glistening lights which just look beautiful and children can also meet our real life reindeers in our new and improved grotto, which is the biggest in the West.
“All of this as well as the other attractions you usually get with us for just £15 per person is a bargain for a full festive day out.”
Other attractions available for visitors at Wookey Hole include the mirror maze, fairy garden, play castle, penny arcade, pirate adventure golf and of course the Witch of Wookey herself!
Tickets cost £15 each and can be pre-booked on-line HERE.
For those who want to make a holiday of it a Santaland short break starts from £140 per room including bed and breakfast, tickets to Santaland, evening access to play areas and fun packs for the kids.
