A magical kingdom of fairytale characters is being created at Wookey Hole Caves in Somerset this Easter, ready to welcome children and families looking for fun and adventure in the school holidays.

Children can now wander through the brand new kingdom and meet a host of magical characters from their favourite story books, as well as exploring the famous caves, and the explosive mix of history, mystery and fun – including the Victorian Penny Arcade, Pirate Island Adventure Golf and indoor play areas.

Buried beneath the Victorian Paper Mill, you will find The Three Little Pigs, Alice in Wonderland, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, The Gingerbread Man, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears in their purpose-built realm.

Every child who enters the kingdom will also get an exciting free gift for Easter. Open from 25 March to 10 April.

The magical Kingdom is being created inside the buildings of the traditional Victorian Paper Mill, which was built to harness the power of the River Axe. The river flows out of the Mendip Hills where it carved out the ancient caves.

Before entering the Fairytale Kingdom, families will tour the caves. The now extended tour includes tunnels and caverns opened up only last year after three tonnes of explosives and thousands of detonators were used to blast through 1000 tonnes of rock.

Visitors can explore the spectacular cavern, revealed for the first time, with its rock formations and a stunning, subterranean lake that was previously only seen by cave divers and underwater adventurers.

Daniel Medley of Wookey Hole Caves said: “In the last year we have invested over £4 million to ensure that Wookey Hole Caves remains at the forefront of visitor attractions. We have been touring other showcaves throughout Europe and bringing back the best ideas to show off the natural wanders under Somerset’s Mendip Hills.

“The Easter holidays are always an exciting time when families get to spend time together, and with over 20 attractions in one place we have created something that will excite everyone from the smallest toddler right through to Grandparents!

“Our new magical and mystical Fairytale Kingdom will capture imaginations and create memories for years to come. We’re a really family-friendly attraction, perfect for a day out or a weekend break during the school holidays. The number of attractions we have all under one ticket price makes for a great value experience.”

Visitors will also be treated to the Hocus Pocus Circus Show, performed in the theatre everyday during the Easter holidays, which features trapeze, silk skills, wire walking and unicycle tricks. They can also enter the Witch’s Laboratory and experience the 4D Cinema that takes them to The Lost World of the Dinosaurs.
Accommodation packages are available in the on-site Wookey Hotel, and discounts can be found on the website.
